Phase 2 of The Square in Sheffield now complete
Phase Two of Carillion Developments' £80M Sheffield mixed use scheme, The Square, is now complete pioneering an upsurge of redevelopment within the Castlegate area of the city.
This latest phase of development, 42,000sq ft of Grade A office accommodation over 6 floors, continues a successful programme of works for The Square, which has received recognition as the driving force behind the regeneration of Castlegate. Signifying early confidence in the scheme as a commercial location, the total 43,000sq ft office space within Phase One was secured by anchor office occupier South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, who moved into their new offices this March. Also completed within the first phase and defining the scheme as a genuine mixed use development, was the 114 bed Travelodge and 400 space Q-Park.
Development Director for Carillion Developments, Neil McMillan, said; "The completion of this latest phase really signifies the transformation that the site has undergone, making a striking addition to the approach to the city. The development agenda for The Square was to initiate the redevelopment of Castlegate and our early success in achieving high profile occupiers proved that our confidence in this urban quarter was justified. We are delighted with the latest office accommodation and look forward to welcoming new occupiers to The Square in due course."
Adam Hodgson, Associate Director for Jones Lang LaSalle, joint office agents with Crossland Otter Hunt, says; "The Square's positioning, at the principal gateway to Sheffield City Centre, makes it an ideal location for any organisation needing to be well connected to motorway and transport links, in addition to being within easy walking distance from all the city's amenities. This key selling point, coupled with the on site hotel and car park, makes The Square one of South Yorkshire's most exciting opportunities within the current marketplace."
Since work started on site in 2004, The Square has received firm support from Sheffield City Council and the regional development agencies, Creative Sheffield and Yorkshire Forward and was awarded Objective One funding to drive forward the redevelopment within the Castlegate quarter. Plans for the next phases of development at The Square incorporate a further 3 office buildings, taking the total office space to 250,000sq ft.
