DTZ appointed lead consultant for Manchester study
As part of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) Housing Growth Point Partnership, Trafford Council is committed to Greater Manchester's twin-pronged growth plans to deliver both economic and housing growth to secure prosperity and an enhanced quality of life within the borough. By being part of the GM Housing Growth Point Trafford is looking to plan and support the delivery of much needed homes and community facilities for local people over the next 15 - 20 years
As part of this work, Trafford Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and the North West Development Agency have appointed DTZ as lead consultant, supported by Addleshaw Goddard and AECOM, to advise on developing governance and delivery arrangements to support their economic and housing growth ambitions. The DTZ team will help Trafford establish a high performance local delivery mechanism, putting it at the forefront of initiatives to address housing delivery and the development of sustainable communities.
Caroline Baker, director at DTZ and project manager comments: "Trafford is a thriving location, renowned for its enterprising nature and vibrancy. The borough will be key to driving forward Greater Manchester's growth agenda and as such, it is crucial that Trafford is able to deliver the additional 20% housing growth above the Regional Spatial Strategy now required of them. Through this commission, we aim to recommend a mechanism to leverage public and private resources to meet these ambitious growth aspirations, and target specific priorities in the borough such as affordable housing and ensure the sustainable wellbeing of Trafford."
Executive Councillor Mike Cornes said: "Trafford is proud to be one of four Greater Manchester authorities awarded Growth Point status for taking action to meet local housing needs. More and affordable housing are two of the big issues facing Trafford, but it is also very important we ensure that any new housing is sustainable and that includes being supported by community facilities such as schools, health facilities and parks."
The Study is funded in part through the Communities and Local Government New Growth Points fund.
