Rokeby developments buys 15-acre caterpillar site for Business Park
The Queen Elizabeth Way, Preston Farm site comes with consent for business and general industrial uses and Rokeby is working up plans for a 200,000 sq ft business park.
Rokeby Developments' director Adrian Goodall said: "In the next couple of months we hope to submit plans for a £50m office park which will also probably include some food outlets and a nursery."
The site is about half-a-mile away from Rokeby' very successful Surtees Business Park which has only one land plot remaining. It landed the largest prelet in Teeside for a decade when it was chosen by engineering giant Aker Kvaerner for its new regional headquarters.
Goodall added: "Surtees Business Park and rival schemes from developers such as Terrace Hill have clearly demonstrated that the Tees Valley with its excellent connections to road, rail and airport links is an increasingly popular relocation choice for major corporate occupiers."
Although Rokeby is best known for its work in the North East, London based director Tom Naylor is leading the drive to acquire schemes in the South and has bid on a number of opportunities. Rokeby's first project in the South is Antelope Park in Southampton, an 180,000 sq ft retail and leisure scheme. It is also working up plans for two hotels on a site close to Heathrow's Terminal 5.
Naylor said: "Rokeby has a proven track record of regenerating quite difficult sites working in partnership with a range of parties from local authorities, other developers and occupiers. My task is now to ensure that Rokeby is much better known nationally as a retail and mixed-use scheme developer."
Sanderson Weatherall advised Caterpillar.
